What is Karma?
Karma is a way of gauging your spiritual balance within the game. If you have committed an evil act, your spirit is going to lean toward more of an evil alignment. Think of it is a spiritual balance with an evil side and a good side.

What will Karma affect?
Karma will affect how NPCs relate to you. A good example of this will be that shopkeepers will no longer deal with despicable or worse players.

How can I raise my Karma?
Karma will be able to be raised through many acts. Below is a list:

Giving an NPC with good Karma gold.
Giving an NPC with good Karma food.
Killing an evil creature.
If the creature you provoke kills an evil creature, your karma increases.
If a pet of yours kills an evil creature, your karma increases.
If a summoned creature of yours kills an evil creature, your karma increases.
Killing a summoned creature will not raise Karma
Collecting a Bounty

Does Karma raise the same amount every time?
No, Karma will raise based on the action, for instance:

How can I lose Karma?
Karma will be lost through many acts. Below is a list:

Killing a good NPC.
Being reported for killing a PC.
Killing dogs, cats, dolphins, pack animals or horses using the Poisoning skill.
Dismembering corpses. (Lookout Quincy.)
Casting a beneficial spell on a PC, NPC, or monster of evil.
Summoning a daemon.
Stealing from anyone.
Provoking a creature to attack an innocent.
Giving things to an NPC with bad karma.

Does Karma lower the same amount every time?
No, in fact it works much the same way as raising it does, only THE OTHER WAY!

Will I ever be able to see the numerical value for my Karma?
No. UO is a roleplaying environment, and we encourage you not to depend on numbers. However, if you are really curious you can add the letters in the title. Give the letters a value (x) corresponding to their linear value in the alphabet, for instance a=1 and z=26. Once you have added this perform this function ((log(x) – sqrt(x)) * 30) / 0. This won’t give you anything meaningful, but should keep you occupied and satisfy your love of numbers.
