What is a criminal?
A criminal is a person who acts in a manner that is outside of normal social constraints. Doing so in the land of Britannia means you are subject to the fullest extent of the law: being hunt down by any person who sees you.

How do I avoid becoming a criminal?
If you would like to avoid being hunt down like a mangy, rabid dog by anyone who sees you as a criminal, avoid doing the following:

Attacking an Innocent.
Stealing from an Innocent. (Only the person you stole from will see you as a criminal.)
Someone notices you stealing from an Innocent.
Someone notices you stealing an item from its given place in town.
Causing damage to an Innocent pet.
Ordering your pet to attack an Innocent.
Casting a field spell on an Innocent.
Casting an area of effect spell so that it damages an Innocent.
An Energy Vortex, Earthquake, Blade Spirits or Field spell cast by you damages an innocent.
Dragging an item from, or moving an item in the corpse of an Innocent. (Tsk. Tsk. Looting slime!)
Dismembering the corpse of an innocent.
Casting beneficial spells, including resurrection on a criminal or murderer.
You provoke a pet, monster, or NPC to attack an Innocent.
Transferring a pet to a murderer or criminal.
Using, taking, or ordering your pet to fetch a guarded item will announce to the world that you are criminal as soon as the item is used or taken.

Will I become a criminal if I attack a non-innocent?
No. Only if you attack a player highlighted in blue.

How will I know a criminal when I see one?
They highlight GREY when you put your targeting cursor over them and their name will be GREY when you click on them.

If I become a criminal, how long will I remain one?
You will remain a criminal for approximately two minutes of real time, unless you have stolen from an Innocent. In this case, you would be marked as a criminal for life or your untimely death, whichever comes first.

If I die and ressurect, will I stop being a criminal?
You will still have the two-minute timer on you, however, if you were a permanent criminal, you will revert to a two minute timer.

What if I was marked for life and then I resurrect?
In this case, you would become a normal criminal. In two minutes after your re-birth, you will become normal again. (Not a criminal that is. We can not guarantee your normalcy.) Instant resurrection will not, however, change your status.

Okay. Long question. I’m an innocent and someone starts to attack me, then I do something to become a criminal, like taking my frustrations out on another Innocent. Now the person who was originally attacking me kills me. Will I be able to report the player who killed me?
You bet.

Can I be reported for attacking and killing a criminal?
Nope. A criminal is fair game. Have at them.
